The Ballon d’Alsace has been classified as a major national site since 1982 for the quality of its landscapes and the wealth of its environment. A meeting point between three regions : Lorraine, Franche-Comté and Alsace, it also represents the linguistic divide between Germanic languages to the East and Latin languages to the West as well as being a watershed point between the Mediterranean and Rhine basins. From the summit at 1 247 m, there is a panoramic view over the Doller valley and the Alps.
