The Romanesque Road

The Alsace Romanesque Road follows its course through plains, mountains and vineyards from the north to the south of Alsace. It is an invitation to follow a trail highlighted by prestigious Romanesque art sites. Though 120 of these sites exist, located from Wissembourg to Feldbach, only 19 have the privilege of being the major stops along this route. These sites are visible just about everywhere in Alsace, such as the famous Saint Léger de Murbach Abbey and, in Wissembourg, the 11th and 14th century Saint Pierre and Saint Paul’s Church and Saint Ulrich’s Church. The architectural beauty of these churches and abbeys is surpassed only by the historical heritage carried and past on.

Since 1993, in harmony with these fascinating reminders of the Romanesque period, the road is put to music. Each year, the Voices and Romanesque Festivalorganised by the association “Voix et Route Romane-Histoire, musique et patrimoine”, resonates its exquisite music along the trail.
